Removal of AIT.ie and LIT.ie e-mail addresses
What is happening?
From July 1st 2024, mail sent to @lit.ie and @ait.ie e-mail addresses will no longer be received, and e-mail sent to those addresses will no longer be forwarded to @tus.ie e-mail addresses
Who is this happening to?
All TUS staff members with an existing ait.ie or lit.ie e-mail address.
All existing ait.ie or lit.ie distribution lists, departmental e-mails, or any other account type with an ait.ie or lit.ie e-mail address attached to it.
Any emails sent directly to TUS email addresses (the vast majority, at this stage) and emails to all TUS distribution groups will not be affected by this change.
Why is this happening?
Staff and students have now been migrated to their @tus.ie identity for 1 year. As part of the integration project, the old AIT and LIT ICT environments, including Office 365 and E-mail, are being decommissioned in preparation for shutdown. This is being carried out to reduce the ICT footprint for TUS, to increase security, and reduce the volume of e-mail arriving in users mailboxes.
Approximately 500,000 e-mails from 10,000 different domains are still coming into ait.ie and lit.ie addresses each month, which contributes an additional 30-40% to the overall e-mail traffic volume into TUS. (Figures based on traffic for May 2024). This additional e-mail, as well as adding to system management and storage overhead, presents a larger footprint of spam and phishing opportunities and increases the attendant security risks.
What do I need to do?
Nothing - your old mailbox in the AIT or LIT environment will be configured in the background by CSD to stop receiving and forwarding e-mail. External parties who continue sending to your ait.ie or lit.ie address after this change will receive a standard "Message not delivered" e-mail.
I still need to be able to be receive mail sent to my old lit.ie or ait.ie e-mail address - what can I do?
If you are still receiving valid e-mail to your old ait.ie or lit.ie e-mail address, and need to receive it past July 1st, you must update your e-mail address with the sender or senders to your tus.ie e-mail.
If this is not possible for any reason, please fill out the form at the link below describing the reason you still require your old e-mail address. This will be reviewed and, if approved, an alias will be set up on your tus.ie account to enable you to continue receiving mail sent to your old ait.ie or lit.ie address. This alias will remain active until January 2025, at which time you must have updated your e-mail address with any relevant parties.

Note that your tus.ie account must not be used for personal reasons such as signing up to social media, online shopping, booking flights etc. as this is in breach of the TUS Acceptable Usage Policy. You must use a personal e-mail address from a provider such as gmail.com or outlook.com for personal correspondence
