OneDrive - accessing and moving data from your old AIT/LIT OneDrive
What is happening?
Starting Monday July 24th 2023, AIT and LIT OneDrives will be set to Read-Only. Once your old OneDrive is set to read-only, you will no longer be able to edit any files or folders, or save new data to it. You will still be able to access your old OneDrive, but if you need to edit any files or folders you must first copy or download them from your old OneDrive to your new TUS OneDrive.
What will my old OneDrive look like when it is set to Read Only?
This depends on how you access your OneDrive.
Access via the OneDrive for Business app
If you access your old OneDrive via the OneDrive for Business app, you will see that there is now a lock symbol as part of the status column when you navigate to your OneDrive folder;
If you try to create a new file or folder or try to save to that location, you will not be able to, and you will be informed that you do not have permission to do so:
You can still open and view files from your old OneDrive, but you will not be able to edit them - the toolbars in Word and other MS applications will be greyed out, and there will be a message in the filename across the top of the application alerting you that the file is read-only and that upload is blocked:
Access via a web browser
If you access your OneDrive via O365 on the web, you will notice that the option to create a new file or folder, or to upload files or folders, is no longer present. The REad-only icon (a pencil with a line trough it) is applied to each file or folder.
If you open a file in the browser, you will only be able to view it and the edit options will not be available:
How can I move the data from my old OneDrive to my new TUS OneDrive?
Using the OneDrive for Business app
If you have your AIT/LIT and TUS accounts set up on your OneDrive for Business app, you can simply copy the files and folders across from your old OneDrive to your TUS OneDrive. Select the files and folders in your old OneDrive and either drag and drop them or copy and paste them to your TUS OneDrive:
Using a Web Browser
If you access your old OneDrive via a web browser, you will need to download the files and folders you need from the old OneDrive and copy them over to your new TUS OneDrive
- Select the file or folder you want to download on your old OneDrive and click the Download button:
Note that if you are downloading a folder, it will be downloaded as a ZIP file, and you will need to extract the files from it in order to access them
- If your file downloads automatically to the Downloads folder on your device, navigate to that folder and copy the file or folder from there to your TUS OneDrive:
If you access your OneDrive for Business account via a web browser, you must download and save he files and folders from your old OneDrive to a folder on your laptop or PC, then upload them via the web browser to your new TUS OneDrive:
- login to OneDrive with your @tus.ie username and password via login.microsoftonline.com
- click Upload and select the file or folder you wish to upload to OneDrive
Repeat this process for all files and folders you wish to move from your old OneDrive to your TUS OneDrive.
